I know that is a hell of a title but I wanted you to know what I am going to talk about in this post as if you don’t wanna know, then why you here? Anyway… To the post, this could be included in the SEO myths series and I will include it in that category but as its to do with all aspects of SEO I will keep it individual too.
Alright, so “How does the number of external links on a page affect link juice flow and pagerank.” I will start by saying is website is pagerank 0 or n/a do not waste your time getting links from there, its not worth it as no link juice can flow as there is no link juice there in the first place. So if you have found a relevant page where you want to get a link from and that has a pagerank of 1+ then you should try to get a link from there.
If we take an SEO example. I am trying to rank for “seo” and I find a website that talks about it, lets say a page on SEland. Has a relevant article about local SEO and I want to link it to the article I wrote about Local SEO a few days ago. The amount of external links (these are the links pointing from a page to other websites) will affect the amount of link juice that is going to flow. And as you can probably guess the more external links on a page the less your link to your site from that page is worth!
This all makes sense if you think about it. Google’s pagerank settings are on a logarithmic scale, if you didn’t know that then you should! All this means to you me and average Joe is that there are less PR10 sites than there are PR9 and less PR4 sites than there are PR3, on a logarithmic scale. I actually had a friend of mine doing maths at university explain this to me in detail, but all you really need to know is the table below and the value per link from a specific PR link.
The number of external links DOES affect how much link juice would flow from your site but the table can help you in that if all of the external link figures are the same this is what you would need! There are hundreds of other ranking factors so do not even try to get started on how many PRX links you would need to outrank a site with XX PRX links because this is not a time for SEO maths, don’t get me wrong I love my SEO maths, but this just is not the time!!!!
Hope that helped and as always stay optimized.
Still cringey but love it!
