Branding is huge especially in the online marketing world. Luckily I used to work at the branding division, so picked up a few things over the months I was there.
When it comes to “digital marketing” “content marketing” “SEO” Other online buzz words its impossible to tell one apart from another, they all look the same! And if its just you, how do you have a chance at creating a strong brand and standing out?
Create a poor brand image and you are instantly doomed.
Create a positive strong image and it can last forever.
Today I’m going to talk about how to create a positive strong seo agency brand image, even if its just you behind it!
This is something that’s extremely frustratingÂ in the digital marketing world, the majority of seo agencies produce average results but due to their brand image land larger SEO contracts than SEO freelancers.
But let’s clear one thing up:
Size doesn’t matter
Well not from an SEO performance point of view anyway.
Some of the best SEO’s in the world are individuals, freelancers, work aloners!
Sure some agencies are very goodÂ too, but the baseline is a lot higher with the freelancer approach.
But as corporations like working with agencies, sometimes it is advantageous to brand as an SEO agency.
Disclaimer:Â Some people might hate this article; fair warning some of these tactics are frowned upon in the business world, but if you are good at what you do and the service you provide is the same (or higher) quality as an agency, then setting yourself up using these ideas will increase conversion rates with corporate clients and will create the image of an strong SEO agency. I’m not necessarily an advocate of these, which is why the subtitle is ideas and not things Tom Buckland believes you should 100% do.
The “Our team” page –Â Create a page or part of your about us section dedicated to telling potential customers about your team. Include short bio’s with job titles, quotes and most importantly head shots of your “employees”.
Talk about the conferences you have held/been a part of – It’s important to talk about the ones you have held or been to carefully; you can use words such as spoken at, but avoid terms such as: “featured on”.
Offer pro bonoÂ work – Usually in return for being able to use the site as a case study. The majority of people will say yes, this is great for 3 reasons. 1.) If your good you might get hired on a paid contract! 2.) You can use this site as a case study, which can later be used as promotion material 3.) You can use the logo as “our clients”, more on that right now!
The our clients section – Have a list of your clients, I’m not saying I advocate straight up lying about who your clients are but its important to have a mix of large corporate clients and smaller local ones. The pro bono approach is the best way to go with this, aside from simply lying!
The Google partner icon / Other awards – Get yourself the Google partner icon, its not very difficult to do and it builds trust with potential clients. Also look into getting other relevant awards (these don’t have to be particularly impressive, they just help conversions.)
Professional copy writing – This is a given, but extremely good advertising copy writing is invaluable. Hire someone to do this for you and it will pay for itself a million times over.
Blog (extremely well) – Amazing blogs will get noticed. The top SEO agencies have great blogs and if you want to compete you will need to do this too but remember its always quality over quantity.
Advertise like crazy – Building the brand is easily achieved with advertising. My favourite form is the re-targeting ads, this makes your brand seem global when in fact you might just be using a very good re-targeting campaign. Also consider buying banner ads on both news websites, business sites and niche-specific sites.
Brand links – Not spam ones but comment on 5-10 SEO sites per day with your brand. These will all be no follow links but they help for 2 main reasons. 1.) They vary your anchor text, 2.) Generate some click throughs and help relevancy of your site.
Be professionally Social – Create the big brand image on your social media accounts. Use paid promotions to ensure you build a following. Twitter and facebook accounts with 200+ followers always help the image.
