This reminds me of something another big SEO company that did this a while back.
But cut a long story short, I don’t think it was a great move by Majestic to move….
And here is why:
Majestic isn’t big enough yet. I personally don’t use Majestic SEO’s tools on a daily basis, but I have done in the past and thought they were okay, not too bad.
I’m sure Majestic have some pretty big budget clients as Moz did, but the main difference for me is if I took to the virtual street and asked 1000 SEOs there opinions of which company was (not better) but better branded. 95% would say Moz. Even when Moz was SEOMOZ.
We all know that SEOMoz moved to Moz and its been pretty awesome for them so far.
I’m a fan of the move. But Majestic pulling the same stunt…. I don’t think they were ready.
1.) Take a simply Google search for the brand keyword:Â
I think I see you in purple there Majestic, but as a brand you are appearing 5th in Google.com for your brand word. I mean your no “HQ SEO” in SERPS but still c’mon Majestic.
And if we take Moz’s results:
Just a bit different…..
Now I know Majestic is going to get a lot more random word searches than Moz for your general searching population and hence the brand KW is more competitive, but these searches do not care about an SEO company and hence I don’t think its a relevant point.
2.) Take an image searchÂ
I think this is always a good way to see if a brand is really established or not.
Even Moz isn’t looking great for this. But they have their logo coming up twice and Roger coming up once in the image search results:
3.) Majestic is too generic
It has so many meanings that people may not know what you mean if you say I’m with Majestic…..
Not catchy either.
Lets say Moz and Majestic are both competing for the same 7 figure client…..
If the CEO says to his employees, check out: Moz, they Google Moz and Moz comes up…. Figures…..
They Google Majestic and the wine company comes up (Employees get excited) But none the less…. Does not figure…..
4.) Social Media Rebranding
The change has meant updates to our social channels and Twitter handle; tweet us @tryMajesticnow. The re-brand will also be bringing some exciting new changes to Majestic’s Google+page and elsewhere in the coming weeks so watch this space…
TryMajestic? I prefer MajesticSEO as a handle for social media, I think most of the population of the world would agree with me there too.
I’m sure it won’t be long until Majestic do actually get up to the number one spot for their keyword. But was it the right time to change the entire domain?
Not in my opinion….
What does everyone else think?
