Being 1st in Google for your keywords is great.
You get a bunch of traffic, tons of leads and usually a lot of revenue as a result.
Another great advantage is organic traffic converts at an incredibly high rate if you’ve done your keyword research in the correct way and are ranking content or products that are actually relevant to the search query.
But there’s one topic that’s not talked about a lot in Google and that’s the psychological TRUST factor associated with ranking #1 in Google.
The Psychological Benefit of Ranking 1st In Google
When you rank #1 there is an automatic assumption that occurs in the brain of your prospect. This is why organic traffic converts so well and essentially the core reason why Google is such a profitable company today.
This is that whatever company/page ranks 1st on Google is the best result. Hence TRUST.
It’s kind of like when someone recommends something to you.
This is called word of mouth marketing to us marketing nerds, but to everyone it is just known as giving someone a recommendation.
If your friend or family member told you a restaurant, bar, construction company, plumber, barber, seo company, web design agency or PR firm was amazing then chances are when you next need one of those services or products you would likely head over to your friend’s recommendation. Oh and if you really trust that friend as being any authority in that industry or just generally someone who makes good decisions, you are 90% more likely to head in that direction on his/her recommendation.
When Google (the smartest algorithm currently used by the public) “recommends” something by ranking it 1st in their algorithm, they are giving you a vote of confidence to go to this website.
This is also why Google is so important from a general “getting search results right” point of view.
If they started to rank websites that were not relevant, interesting or just plain spam. People would start getting annoyed and hence move to another search engine.
Obviously we are pretty much past that ever happening anymore, but that was very important in the early days.
So, with so much trust by users going straight to Google, Google itself actually gives you a vote of confidence to whatever website ranks 1st. This translates through the users brain and acts as a very strong psychology factor when selecting your site.
This is why most people click the top link on Google, and is also why the top result converts traffic better too.
How can we use this to our advantage?
The simple part?
Rank 1st in Google.
But once you have you can leverage this.
There’s something very powerful when your in a client meeting and saying “search for this” and showing your company or your client is first for that position. This builds trust and rapport in a polarising way.
Whether you are actually best at providing a service doesn’t matter.
To a prospects mind if you rank 1st they believe you are.
Generally speaking the best companies will slowly rank higher in Google (without any active SEO effort) simply due to their site being shared and linked to more frequently than a company that delivers an average service or product.
Essentially another reason that ranking 1st in Google is awesome.
